The first place that comes to mind for many is likely our great state of Florida. However, before you take the leap, you should examine the pros and cons. Although you shouldn\u2019t think of the below an exhaustive list, it should give you some good things to consider.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_480\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-480\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgettbyzewski.com\/real-estate-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/welcometoflorida-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Thinking about retiring in Florida\" width=\"525\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgettbyzewski.com\/real-estate-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/welcometoflorida-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bridgettbyzewski.com\/real-estate-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/welcometoflorida-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bridgettbyzewski.com\/real-estate-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/welcometoflorida-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-480\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Should you retire in Florida?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>The Pros (in no particular order)<\/h2>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li>Florida offers residents the best legislated asset protection whether your assets are large or small (along with Texas).<\/li>\n<li>Florida offers big tax savings for high income families or individuals, and generally good tax savings for the rest of us.<\/li>\n<li>The weather in Florida is as close to perfect as you can get in the U.S., during the winter months.<\/li>\n<li>You will feel like the smartest investor on earth when your Florida home is worth more every day (during good economic times).<\/li>\n<li>Florida offers a huge variety of entertainment for retirees, and you will likely develop new close friends with common interests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Cons (in no particular order)<\/h2>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li>You will miss family (grandkids) and friends from back home.<\/li>\n<li>People from \u201chome\u201d will come to Florida to visit you a lot (this almost always starts as a Pro but can shift to a Con for some).<\/li>\n<li>It does get stupid hot in the summer in many parts of Florida.<\/li>\n<li>Florida\u2019s beautiful winter weather brings in tons of tourists (when you aren\u2019t one, you will feel differently about them).<\/li>\n<li>As a Floridian, you will pay more for homeowner\u2019s insurance than anywhere else.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What\u2019s your bottom line? Are there more pros than cons for you? You still may make a retirement mistake even if you know the pros and cons first. However, by identifying what\u2019s important to you ahead of time, you will increase your odds of making the right decision.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, don\u2019t forget that you can turn a few of the Cons into Pros for yourself as well.
