As of this week, the average U.S. rate for a 30\u2011year fixed mortgage is 6.49%, compared with 6.52% a month ago. At this time, there are as many experts predicting a rise in mortgage interest rates for the remainder of 2026 as there are predicting a fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Relative to the long\u2011term average of 7.68%, today\u2019s rates still offer meaningful savings, roughly $80 less per month for every $100,000 borrowed. Rates are also lower than they were a year ago. Over the past 12 months, the average monthly payment on a $100,000 30\u2011year fixed mortgage has dropped by about $15.
